Meniscus injuries are one of the most common injuries seen in the knee. Athletes, in particular those who play cutting or pivoting sports, are prone to meniscus tears. However, the meniscus is also prone to tearing at any age. Depending on the tear location and configuration, both non-operative and operative options exist to treat meniscus tears.
Medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries occur when the knee is struck from the outside. This is commonly seen in contact sports such as football, basketball, and soccer. The majority of MCL tears can be treated nonoperatively. Surgical treatment can be beneficial in cases where symptoms persist or where multiple ligaments are injured.

Patellar tendon ruptures are rare injuries. They generally occur during jumping or explosive sports, such as basketball, football, and volleyball. Often, patients will hear an audible pop in their knee, followed by swelling and difficulty extending their knee. Surgical treatment of patellar tendon injuries is recommended to allow patients to return back to their sport or activity.

Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries occur when the bent knee is struck hard from the front. This is commonly seen in car accidents, when the dashboard strikes the shinbone, or in contact sports such as football or rugby. The majority of isolated PCL tears can be treated non-operatively. Surgical treatment can be beneficial in cases where symptoms persist or where multiple ligaments are injured.
Posterolateral Corner (PLC) tears are rare injuries. They generally occur from traumatic injuries such as motorcycle accidents or contact sports such as football. Oftentimes, PLC injuries occur in conjunction with another ligament tear, such as the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Surgical treatment of PLC injuries is generally recommended in active individuals who wish to return to their sport or activity.
Quadriceps tendon ruptures are rare injuries. They generally occur during jumping sports, such as basketball, football, and volleyball. Often, patients will hear an audible pop in their knee, followed by swelling and difficulty extending their knee. Surgical treatment of quadriceps tendon injuries is recommended to allow patients to return back to their sport or activity.
